Tri-North Helps Bring Teen Home to His Family

WEST ALLIS, WI. - Tri-North Builders and Variety, the Children’s Charity, are proud to announce the completion of a house renovation to benefit a West Allis teenager who suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall at school.

His home, built in 1926, did not have wheelchair access. He needed a ramp and additional rooms to accommodate his condition. The cost of renovation would total nearly $50,000, which the family could not afford. Luckily, Variety stepped in at this point.

Variety the Children’s Charity, is dedicated to improving the quality of life and opportunities available to disabled and disadvantaged children of Wisconsin. Their mission is to fund as many possibilities for Wisconsin children challenged by physical disability or disadvantaged circumstances. Gerise LaSpisa, executive director of Variety contacted Tri-North Builders with a request for guidance about how to put together a project of this magnitude. Tri-North Builders president, Tom Thayer offered to manage and complete it for Variety.

Tri-North Builders immediately kicked off the project by working with its subcontractors to donate money, time and supplies to build a 70-foot ramp, a new bed and bathroom, and other necessary changes. The project, now completed, has helped increased the accessibility of the home dramatically for the teen, who is expected home around Thanksgiving.

To celebrate the young man’s homecoming and to thank all those who made it possible, Tri-North Builders and Variety the Children’s Charity will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the home, followed by a reception at a local church. A fund at Beloit Road Baptist Church has been set up to help the family purchase a van to transport their son, checks can be made out and sent to:
